The Magitech Chronicles Pen & Paper Roleplaying Game

Created by Chris Fox

Thank you for helping us to bring the RPG to life! The Magitech Chronicles began as a best-selling fiction series, and now we're finally coming to tabletop RPGs. Below you can see the add-ons for the game. It's not to late to get in on the ground level! Join us, Outrider.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

The latest Art Collection is available and we're days away from a final PDF

The NTM Hornet Mk IX

We have tons of goods news! I love good news.

If you backed at the $30 or higher tier you should receive an email today from BackerKit with a link to a digital archive containing all the additional artwork we dropped into the library. It's pretty amazing, and beyond the 25 we'd originally hoped for. Please email me at [email protected] tomorrow or later if you've backed at that level and don't get an email.

The game itself is basically done. I say basically because the last thing Sercan is doing is correcting Thomas Edwards to Tom Edwards. That's it. The rules are done. The final character sheet is amazing.

The very instant I have the PDF for the collector's edition you will too. We're about two weeks over the deadline we aimed for in the Kickstarter, but I'm hoping the delay is worth it. DriveThruRPG is all prepared, and just awaiting the file to go live.

At your request I've also posted a gameplay video detailing combat in Roll20, and will be adding ones for spellcasting, magic item creation, and anything else you feel is needed. Let me know!

We've been playing the heck out of the game, and campaigns are sprouting like mushrooms.

Nearly every player who reaches a Catalyst for the first time has one of those mystical AHA moments. Leveling up your gear, and choosing a power, is fun and amazing. It's something you don't get to do in any other game, and the story is built to support it. Good times.

Anyway, I need to get back to the writing. I'm working on Book 4 in the Magitech Legacy for those who follow the fiction, but I'll be pausing that the very instant I have the print file so I can get a proof of the hardcover sent to my door as fast as they will send it =D

We're in the home stretch, but need to push release to August 15th
over 4 years ago – Tue, Jul 28, 2020 at 04:01:46 PM

Good morning, Outriders! I waited until the last minute to send this, because I wanted to wait until I knew for certain that we'd fall short of our projected July 30th release.

Our lead developer Sercan has yet to turn in the final manuscript, but for good reason. After recovering from eight weeks of Covid he needed to prepare for a German citizenship test, which he has now passed late last week (yay).

So what does that mean for us? A slightly different launch window. Sercan is nearly done with the work, but it looks like we'll overshoot our goal. I've pushed release to August 15th for the PDF, and will be releasing all updated digital rewards at that time (the obj files for 3D minis, and the art collection for anyone who backed at that level). Paperback / Hardcover books should be available two weeks after that.

It's possible that Sercan could still work miracles, and that we can push the launch back up, but I wanted to keep you in the loop. We're sooooo close to having this game in your hands. I've now run 7 sessions in my latest campaign, and have never had this much fun.

Players feel like Big Damned Heroes and I don't have to reference my way through 500 pages of errata to make ruling. Great times.

If you have questions, haven't received your beta of the game, or just want to chat about SF&F hit me up at [email protected]. I'll post more news the second I hear from the developer, and the instant he delivers the final I will get it to you!

The Magitech Chronicles RPG is nearly complete
over 4 years ago – Mon, Jul 06, 2020 at 11:19:45 PM

Thank you so much for your continued support. The virus that shall not be named landed the last week of the Kickstarter, but we funded, and we've very nearly finished development despite our lead developer contracting the virus himself.

Why have we been quiet so long? Because I wanted to deliver an email that was all good news. Now I can, and I can do it with pride. The game is almost ready. We've had several different campaigns running for months now, including mine, and all sort of new content has been added. How about some artwork?

If you've read the novels I bet you recognize at least 3 of these characters

Crewes, Nara, Seket, and Kezia

We've added schematics and images for ships, weapons, and magic items. Check this stuff out:

And some magic items:

The book is amazing, and we are still on schedule for July 30th completion for the PDF. That means by that date we should have a tested, polished, ready to play game that receives constant updates and editions, in edition to more novels.

I'm already amazed by your stories. People have made amazing Catalysts, and run some incredible adventures. Quite a few people have reached out to me wanting to write their own Magitech fiction, and we may open an anthology if there's enough interest. Either way we'll be showcasing your work on the World Anvil page.

I have to be honest though, and here's the wrinkle. I've never printed books before. I have never shipped them globally. I have no idea what printing headaches we will encounter. Here's my promise to you. We'll solve the problems and get the books in your hands as fast as possible.

If you are erroneously charged shipping I will refund that and we can work 1 on 1 as needed. My personal email is [email protected] and if you have problems, feedback, or encouragement please reach out.

This game is my baby. I've poured my heart into making it a reality, and over 95% of the content has been written by me. I can't wait to get it into your hands. The stars await, Outriders. Join us.

And some more artwork...

Digital Rewards are going out!
over 4 years ago – Thu, May 07, 2020 at 01:46:36 PM

Hey, Outriders! We're clawing our way ever closer to a polished final RPG, and are on schedule for a July 30th release. As of today people are receiving their digital rewards, which includes the art collection. I wanted to take a minute to explain how that works.

You'll be emailed a link.

You will download the file.

You will input the password "outriders2020".

You'll get access to the first crop of artwork.

Right around launch time we will send a second link, which will contain an updated collection with all the new artwork that is currently being added. In the meantime backers enjoy!

If you haven't completed your survey in backerkit and have questions please let me know! The delivery of the link is tied to completing the survey.

Playtesting has also been going enormously well. We completed the very first play through of the First Contact saga, and had an absolute blast doing it. The party lived, though one character ended at zero hit points and very nearly died. The adventure is still in beta, but you can take a peek if you're interested.

We're also testing a ton of rules, and will have an update around June 2nd for version 1.03. This will be a massive update with ships, spells, guns, and a whole lot of setting information, plus some short fiction involving characters from people who backed. I've now reached everyone but one person about their story.

Anyway, thank you guys so much for backing this project. We are so grateful that you believe in us, and are more firmly committed than ever to delivering a game that you and your players will love.

If you were one of the people who picked up the audiobook thank you! Because it's 66 hours for one credit tons of people are giving us a chance, and that means more gamers joining us in the Facebook group. Roll20 is working really well to get us through this social distancing situation!

Version 1.02 is ready and we've got BackerKit addons set up!
over 4 years ago – Tue, Apr 21, 2020 at 02:08:27 AM

First, the final on the image we've been following. More awesomeness to follow

This morning I pushed send on the smoke test to send a survey to 5% of the backers. As soon as I have confirmation that worked we'll be sending them to everyone.

If you didn't get a chance to back while the Kickstarter was live not to worry! You can still do so via the BackerKit store, and any rewards that were not sold out are available. If you backed at the $400 or $600 level, then you and I need to arrange a Skype/Zoom/Phone call to discuss details so I can get your characters added to the novels and game.

Now on to the fun stuff. I ran the First Contact saga on Sunday and it was awesome. We had a Captain, a Mage Killer, a Healer, and a Spellsniper, and made it about half way through the adventure in the four hours we had. It was my first time using Roll20 since (yikes) 2010, and man was I impressed. Gaming online is much more fun that it used to be back in the stone age.

Anyway, I'll have more news and updates to follow. Version 1.02 of the game is now live to those in the beta, and we're learning all sorts of interesting things. Most paths have received buffs, and a whole slew of new spells have been added.

Version 1.03 will contain even more spells, creatures, starships, vehicles, cyberware, page 3-4 of the character sheet, and of course more magitech. We'll let you know when we've got it!
